MLK Weekend of Service at Churches United
Serve with Purpose, Celebrate His Legacy!
Join us for a special MLK Weekend of Service as we honor Dr. King’s legacy of compassion, justice, and community care. Over four days, volunteers are invited to give their time, energy, and heart by choosing from a variety of meaningful service activities each hour. Whether you enjoy crafting, organizing, encouraging others, or helping keep our shelter welcoming, your presence truly makes a difference. Come be part of something hopeful, heartfelt, and community-building.
How It Works
Volunteers sign up for a specific hourly time slot, and when you arrive, you’ll get to choose whichever service station inspires you most. You are welcome to stay the full hour, but even if you can only attend part of the time, please still sign up—we are grateful for every minute you’re able to give. If you are volunteering as a family or small group of up to 4 people, responding as a team allows you to use the “Reserved Slot” option to register anyone who doesn't have an account. If your group has more than 4 volunteers, please reserve all of the available slots for your group and then email keelyh@churches-united.org with the total number of people who will be attending so we can accommodate everyone.
Volunteer Stations You Can Choose From
1. Notes of Hope: Create uplifting messages and MLK-inspired quote cards for our guests and staff. Your words of kindness help brighten spirits and remind our community they’re not alone.
2. Donations Sorting: Help us organize clothing, hygiene items, and essential supplies so they’re ready for guests who need them most. This hands-on task keeps our shelter running smoothly and with dignity.
3. Sparkle & Shine: Add warmth to our space by helping with light cleaning and simple beautification projects. Your efforts create a more welcoming, comfortable environment for our guests.
4. Kindness Kits: Assemble cozy care packs—such as comfort kits or winter warmth bundles—that support guests during the coldest months. A small kit can make a big impact on someone’s day.
5. MLK Mural Makers: Help host a welcoming coloring table where guests and community members can color individual pieces that will come together to form a collective portrait of Dr. King. As a volunteer, you’ll encourage participation, offer support, and help create a shared artwork that celebrates hope, justice, and community.
Thank You
We can’t wait to see you at our MLK Weekend of Service! Every note written, kit assembled, and smile shared helps bring hope, comfort, and community to those we serve. Thank you for serving with purpose and helping us celebrate Dr. King’s lasting legacy.
